Caring for Your GuitarThis is really a matter of common sense, but just in case you need some guidelines here they are: 1) Buy a hard case (or at least a carbon-fibre reinforced pod) which fits your guitar properly and leave your guitar in it when not in use. 2) When you put the guitar down, place it on a guitar stand, or in a corner where it can’t fall over. Avoid putting the guitar anywhere vulnerable – eg where someone might trip over it, or sit on it, or against a wall where it could fall over (these all happen – frequently!). 3) Keep the guitar in moderate temperatures at all times. Avoid leaving your guitar in a car on sunny days – even when in its’ case. Avoid leaving the guitar too close to the radiator, even when in its’ case. Avoid leaving the guitar in a very cold and damp environment for any length of time (eg garden shed or garage in winter). Avoid leaving the guitar anywhere near a fire or stove of any kind – especially wood-burning stoves, fan or bar heaters. Avoid leaving the guitar in direct sunlight for very long in the summer. Avoid leaving the guitar in a loft, a bay window, conservatory or any room where sun comes in through glass shining directly on the guitar – even if the guitar is in its’ case. 4) Keep liquids of all kinds away from the guitar. Water and other liquids will cause wood to warp and can ruin a guitar. 5) Avoid dropping your guitar – handle with care! Remember - your guitar is made of wood and needs to be looked after. If you follow the above guidlines, your guitar should last for many years. Should your guitar require any repairs, we advise you to find a local guitar technician (luthier) for advice and any necessary work. Should you wish, Art Music can recommend a competant and reputable luthier in your area. |
