Gypsy Jazz Style Guitars

Gypsy Jazz guitars have a tailpiece, with a floating bridge, and the top (or table or soundboard) is arched (more than on an acoustic but less than an F-Hole guitar).    The extra curve on the soundboard gives more attack on the notes (than does an acoustic) which gives Gypsy Jazz guitars excellent projection and they are designed to suit the ‘Hot Club of France’ style playing The fret-board is usually 47mm – 48mm wide at the nut.   The top can be Cedar or Spruce, the back and sides are usually Mahogany, Walnut or Maple.    The sound-hole is either large and D-shaped or small and oval.     Gypsy Jazz guitars use low-tension steel strings such as Savarez Argentines, and are lightly constructed.

On no account should ordinary steel strings be used on any Gypsy Jazz guitar under any circumstances.
